This design uses basic Granny Square techniques but introduces some design elements to take it to the next level.
The design is very flexible. For example:
• I used 6 ombré colors in the sample used in this written pattern. However, you can use as many colors as you choose. The throw has enough texture that it would be very pretty in one color. It could also be used as a stash buster using any number of colors.
• To adjust the size, simply change the number of small squares in the middle. You can make this throw as a square or a rectangle. Just remember that if you change the configuration of the center squares, the stitch counts as provided below will need to be adjusted accordingly. The entire pattern is worked over multiples of 3 stitches, so adjusting is relatively easy. You can also adjust the number of Rounds worked around the small squares to change the size.
The center small squares are joined using a Continuous Flat Braid Join. I have included a photo tutorial for the joining. If you have never used this join before, this would be the ideal project to give it a try. This pretty and versatile join is one of my favourite joining methods.
