Tess
Tess is a crescent shaped shawl knit from the bottom up starting with a crochet chain cast-on (photo tutorial included). The pattern is presented as a series of charts, although some written explanations of stitches are included. The body is shaped using short rows in an Estonian star-stitch pattern creating an open feel and interesting texture. Three sizes (S, M, L) are included in the pattern. There is also the option for adding beads.
Size
Will depend on yarn choice and needle size, but in general
S(M,L): 50”(58”,66”) along the upper edge and 13”(15”,17”) deep
Materials
Size S(M,L): 400yd(460yd,525yd); 366m(422m,480m)
Lace to fingering weight yarn recommended.
optional: beads (8/0 or 6/0 seed beads): 369(392,415)
Tools
30” (80cm) or longer circular needle (long enough to hold 300+ stitches);
US 5-7 (3.75-4.5mm)- size dependent on yarn used;
Crochet hook: size D-F (3.25-3.75mm)- needs to be similar or slightly smaller than knitting needle size
Optional: Crochet hook: 0.9mm (or sized to fit through hole in bead)- needed only if adding beads
Difficulty: Intermediate
This shawl has an unusual (and fiddly) cast-on requiring the ability to make crochet chains, twisted stitches, 7-in-3 stitch, estonian star stitch, plus the more standard lace techniques such as directional decreases, and yarn overs.
