Tessa Dress
After seeing her little sisters Lorelei Dress my oldest daughter wanted her very own made with Scooby-doo fabric. Given that Tess can be a bit of a tomboy (and a complete girly girl at others)at times i wanted to do something a bit different, a little less feminine. this lead me to the crocodile stitch trim.
The resulting dress is a little more fiddly than my Lorelei Dress but the result is very Tessa. I wouldn’t recommend this dress for absolute beginners since it introduces techniques that are slightly more complicated than the usual ch, sc, dc, etc. An advanced beginner will find it challenging but should have success.
The pattern is designed so you can make the dress to any size, with any yarn and any hook size.
The dress in the picture is approximately an age 5 and uses some where in the region of 75g of DK cotton yarn. Plus a small amount of cotton in a complimentary colour. A yarn of 44” wide fabric would have been ample to make the skirt (mine is a remnant from some curtains). I would recommend using a quilting or dress weight fabric (most are) and not an upholstery weight because it is hard work to sew, but as you can see i did manage it.
The sewing part is very simple. The skirt in the picture was entirely hand sewn, so no sewing machine is needed (though it would be significantly faster to use one) and only requires only straight lines. There is complicated cutting of fabric.
The pattern is written instructions with plenty of pictures to help you along the way.
