Tessellation is a tiling technique that uses geometric shapes to cover a surface. The Tessellated Poncho uses this approach to create a unique garment construction. Worked flat and modularly starting with a textured, mitered square centerpiece, picked-up stitches along edges are used to create a series of mitered squares stretching out from its two sides. Once complete and blocked, the two side panels are seamed in the back (just the one seam!). The Tessellated Poncho features full coverage of the front of the torso and upper back without any bulk around the waist to encumber movement.

Approximate Blocked Measurements (after seaming)
Measure your body at bust level around both your torso and upper arms to determine your body’s measurement. This garment is meant to be worn with -2”– +6” of ease depending upon your personal fit preference. Within each size, there are two different chest circumferences available—these are achieved by adding either 5 or 6 rows of Side Squares to each edge of the Centerpiece. However, the chest circumference for any size can be modified by knitting more or fewer rows of Side Squares. So, if you prefer a taller/shorter Centerpiece with a larger/smaller circumference, merely knit as many rows of Side Squares as is required to meet your desired sizing.

SIZE 1: 18” tall centerpiece; 42/50” circumference (5 rows/6 rows)
SIZE 2: 20” tall centerpiece; 50/58” circumference (5 rows/6 rows)
SIZE 3: 22” tall centerpiece; 56/68” circumference (5 rows/6 rows)
SIZE 4: 24” tall centerpiece; 62/74” circumference (5 rows/6 rows)

Skill Level: Intermediate

ERRATA Notice
There is a small error in the pattern as it relates to Cast On counts:
Setup Row 1 (RS): With C1: CO 128 (128 144 160) 172 using the long-tail cast on
Setup Row 2 (WS) : K 64 (64 72 80) 86, PM, K to end

There should only be 4 sizes listed. Please ignore the first cast on number, which is listed twice. This instruction should read as follows:
Setup Row 1 (RS): With C1: CO (128 144 160 172) using the long-tail cast on
Setup Row 2 (WS) : K (64 72 80 86), PM, K to end

The same goes for the Side Square instructions. You’ll ignore that initial, repeated size. Those stitch counts should now read as follows:
(16 18 20 22)
