Mosaic Made Easy …

Tessello means ‘to mosaic’ in Latin.

Written for both DK or Aran weight yarns. Annoyingly Ravelry currently only allows it to be listed in one category.

You will be working in the round. Using a simple combination of knits, purls and slip stitches you will work up a cowl that is an array of stunning wide zig-zag stripes.

Designed to be a wide, single wrap cowl but notes provided for tips on making a slimmer, double wrap cowl.

Works beautifully with a main skein of a solid yarn and then a choice of another solid yarn, a long colour change skein or indeed minis skeins Be sure to read the yarn notes sections for some tips.

Written in full with handy progress check boxes, so you can keep a visual track of where you are.

I have formatted this pattern in such a way that you should only need to print page 3 (or page 4 if you prefer to use a charted version).

Saving the planet one unprinted page at a time.

Skills used …

  • Provisional cast on (video tutorial provided).
  • Knit and purl stitches.
  • Slip stitches.
  • Kitchener stitch (video tutorial provided).

You will need the following :

DK ~ 100g each in colour A and B, 4.5mm (US 7) 40cm circulars or dpns if preferred.

Aran ~ 100g each in colour A and B, 5mm (US 8) 40cm circulars or dpns if preferred.

(a light worsted could be subbed for one of the colours in either version).

This is a great project for using up those minis skeins we all seem to collect or even stash busting your ‘leftovers’. Leave colour A the same all the way through and simply change colour B on each pattern repeat.

BOR marker. Crochet hook for provisional cast on. Length of scrap yarn for provisional cast on. Tapestry needle (for sewing those dreaded ends in).

Gauge and Size

DK ~ 4.5mm : 20 stitches and 28 rows (4 inch / 10 cm stocking stitch in the round).

Aran ~ 5mm : 26 stitches and 24 rows (4 inch / 10 cm stocking stitch in the round).

Measurements when blocked, joined and laid flat :

Width : 11 inches (28 cm) Height : 8 inches (20 cm)

If you like the look of this pattern it would be a huge help to me if you would give it a like as I have an overflowing notebook of ideas and this helps me understand what to work on next. Your support of my little dream is so appreciated. Every ‘like’ helps and it’s a known fact I do a tiny happy dance each time I get a notification. I am a terrible dancer!
