Tettegouche
Inspired by hikes along the Lake Superior Hiking trail in northern Minnesota. The shawl is crescent shaped with a body comprised of the Estonian blueberry stitch, creating little beads like the berries found along every trail. The transition to the edge is a simple arrowed lattice, recalling the growth of the forests and pines along the lake. The edge undulates like creeks running down to the shore. Find your inner calm or memory of the shores in this intermediate level shawl.
It comes in three sizes:small, medium & large.
You can make it larger by doing more repeats of Chart 2 - no instructions given for larger sizes.
The pattern is given in full charted and written instructions.
Skill Level: easy to intermediate.
Some experience with shawl construction, multiple increases and lace is helpful. The most complicated stitches are k3into1 and cable 1 over 2.
Finished size is varies depending on size made.
Notes on materials:
400 - 650 yards of fingering weight yarn
Needles: US 3 (3.25 mm) or US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles at least 32” long. Use US 3 if you knit loose, 4 if you knit loose.
Stitch markers (if desired, no insturctions given for placement)
Notions: tapestry needle, scissors, tape measure, blocking pins.
The numbers given for yards/meters needed of yarn are averaged from test knitting: if you knit loosely add an extra 30 yards to your total just in case.
A huge thank you to the lovely ladies that test knit this shawl! I’m always inspired by working with such wonderful women. Thanks, sanita60, contemax, gruenhopper, jlblapper, and ftmhling.
