An easy cowl for a toddler, knitted in the circular, with moss/seed stitch borders, and rib as main pattern.
Size: 20cm diameter; 10cm deep
Yarn: 1 x 100g ball Vickie Howell Mod Wool (Aran weight) Mellow Yellow (AM7441)
Needles: Circular 4.5mm (7US)
Pattern:
• Using 4.5m circular needles cast on 82 stitches
• Moss/Seed Stitch Pattern
o Row 1: Knit 1, then lift cast on stitch over this knitted stitch, to join; then Knit 1, Purl 1, ending with Knit 1 (use marker to note end of row) (81 stitches)
o Row 2: Purl 1, Knit 1, ending with Purl 1
o Row 3: Knit 1, Purl 1, ending with Knit 1
o Row 4: Purl 1, Knit 1, ending with Purl 1; decrease 1 stitch (80 stitches)
• Rib Pattern
o Row 5: Knit 2, Purl 2
o Continue for a further 14 rows, so that there are 15 rows of rib in total
• Moss/Seed Stitch Pattern
o Row 20: Increase 1 stitch, Knit 1, Purl 1, ending with Knit 1 (81 stitches)
o Row 21: Purl 1, Knit 1, ending with Purl 1
o Row 22: Knit 1, Purl 1, ending with Knit 1
o Row 23: Purl 1, Knit 1, ending with Purl 1
• Cast off
This cowl can be amended to size to suit. Points to note:
o When knitting moss/seed stitch in the round, always have an odd number of stitches to knit (after you have joined)
o When knitting rib, ensure there is a multiple of 4 stitches, to knit
