I don’t know why this shawl is called the Texas Shawl. I guess it named itself… but after knitting it, I added a Lone Star to justify the name.
It is a large triangular shawl, knit in garter rows and two simple and easy slip stitch patterns. If you are new to slip stitch patterns (or mosaic knitting, as it is also known) before, this is a good beginner’s project. It’s an easy knit on rather large needles, so it’s relatively quick to knit up.

I have knit it in a brushed alpaca/silk blend, but any light and fluffy yarn will do. Chose two colors, and a contrast for the Lone Star and/or the pompoms - and have fun!

Size
196 x 76 cm / 77 x 30 inches

Yardage
Main color: 420 meters / 460 yards fingering weight mohair or brushed alpaca
Contrast color 1: 280 meters / 306 yards fingering weight mohair or brushed alpaca
Contrast color 2: 100 meters / 110 yards fingering weight mohair or brushed alpaca (only used for pompom and star)
The sample is knit in Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk (140 meter / 25 gr)

Needles
Circular needles 6 mm/US 10, preferably with a long cord, as you will have quite a lot of stitches at the end.
DPNs or long circular (working magic loop), 3.75 mm/US 5 for star.

Gauge
14 stitches x 19 rows in garter = 10 x 10 cm. Gauge is not terribly important in a shawl – the size will just change slightly. Look at the material you’re creating and see if you like it; if not, change the needle size!
