This balaclava pattern is written for one size, which should fit most adults. It’s an open-faced style based on WWII-era balaclava shaping (you can pull the lower half up over your face for warmth), with texture and ribbing added for a flexible fit.

Textured Balaclava is a project that looks nice in both scraps or a solid color! You can knit one in less than a skein of Malabrigo Yarns Arroyo. The main sample is shown un Arroyo, in the Plomo colorway.

Materials:
240-250 yards of Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo
1 16” circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge.
Tapestry needle
crochet hook, F/3.75mm or size suited to yarn
scrap yarn for optional
removable stitch markers

Gauge:
Gauge is 20 sts and 38 rows over 4”/10cm of lightly blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Measurements:
One size fits most for this stretchy balaclava! It measures about 14”/36cm tall and 9”/23cm across, measured flat. This stretches to fit most average adults, which usually equates to head circumferences between 21-23”/53-58cm.

For the first 24 hours, you can download this early-release pattern for free! Comments and likes help the design get more visibility, and I do appreciate them, but that’s optional of course. Enjoy, and have a good winter!
