Textured Memories Blanket
When I found out I was pregnant with my third (and last) baby, I knew that I wanted to make a baby blanket, just like I had done for my other children. I kept looking for patterns to use up my scrap yarn from different hand knit projects that I had done over the years to create a special “memories” blanket but couldn’t find the right pattern. So I decided to write one of my own.
In her blanket, I bought one skein of wool to tie all of it together and the remaining yarn came from some of my favourite projects I had knit over the past year with the exception of one skein. One had been sitting in my yarn bowl for many years waiting for the perfect project. It was also the first skein of yarn that I treated myself to 5 years ago from my local yarn shop.
It brings me such happiness that she will forever have a blanket of special memories, filled with lots of colour, texture and love.
Shape:
A rectangular blanket full of texture
Yarn:
I used partial balls and scrap yarn from various projects to create a special blanket filled with memories. I used 1 MC (main colour) and 5 CCs (contrasting colours) but you can easily customize this pattern to repeat/eliminate various sections and make the blanket how you choose.
Colour A (MC): 190 yards
Colour B: 110 yards
Colour C: 55 yards You will not want to have less than 55 yards for this section if you want to complete this section as written. There was not much yardage left when I finished this section.
Colour D: 281 yards If you do not have enough yardage, check out the Special Notes section for tips on making this section smaller.
Colour E: 100 yards
Colour F: 45 yards You will not want to have less than 45 yards for this section if you want to complete this section as written. There was not much yardage left when I finished this section.
Please note, I have added 5% to the yardage requirements compared to my usage to account for a small variance in tension.
Needles:
US size 9 (5.5mm) circular knitting needles, 32” or 40” long cable needles
Other Notions:
Tapestry needle
Gauge:
17 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette, after blocking
Measurements:
approximately 36.5 inches wide and 29 inches long, after blocking
This pattern is easy to adjust in length simply by using different amounts in each of the 6 sections or by adding repeats of sections and using more colours.
This pattern may not be redistributed or copied in any way. Finished items may be sold, I just ask that you give credit to my shop for the pattern. Due to the nature of patterns, this pattern may not be returned or exchanged. All sales are final.
Happy knitting!
