If you love the look of knitting, but only know how to crochet, this is the hat for you!

Worked from the bottom-up, this pattern is easily customizable because you can try it on as you go to ensure proper fit.

This pattern uses the crochet waistcoat stitch (also called the knit stitch, split single crochet stitch, center single crochet stitch, or the center post single crochet stitch). If you are not familiar with the waistcoat stitch, step-by-step instructions, detailed photos, and a video tutorial are included in this beginner-friendly (familiar with chaining, single crochet, and slip stitches) pattern.

Unlike other crochet stitches, the waistcoat stitch is a tight stitch so it creates a thick, dense fabric that is perfect for cold weather.

This pattern contains instructions for sizes from baby through adult and various modifications such as using #5 Bulky (Chunky) yarn, different finishing options, and color changes. This pattern was designed using Malabrigo Rios, a #4 worsted weight yarn, with a 6.5mm hook. However, you can use any yarn you wish as long as you adjust your gauge accordingly. This pattern uses US abbreviations and was tech edited and tested.

There is a free video tutorial on how to make the adult-size worsted weight version of the hat.
