The Abstract Miter
Errata: In pattern, ‘yf, slip 1’ should read ‘sl1wyib’. This has been fixed in the pattern as well. Please download the latest version.
Yarn: 6 colors (280 yds each) = 1680 yds total
Any Superwash DK weight yarn would be suitable.
Details: The Abstract Miter is a play on a classic knit pattern: the mitered square. The blanket begins with a square and is then mitered using the top and picked up stitches along one side. The final 2 colors are knit at right angles to each other giving a log cabin look at one corner. A deep garter border is knit while the pattern is worked so the only finishing is weaving in ends. The Abstract Miter is designed to use every yard of yarn so that there is no waste. It is simple enough that you could make the blanket larger or smaller as is your preference being sure to have an equal amount of yardage for each color. To keep things interesting and to add some texture, there is an alternating slipped stitch pattern that coordinates with color changes. There are instructions on ways to make the piece truly your own.
Size: One size. Finished measurements approximately 36” x 48”. The size is largely determined by how aggressively the blanket is blocked.
Needle: US #8 /5.0 mm 60” long circular
