The Acorn Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree
To welcome in the Autumn, and to celebrate the release of Sparkle Stories new audio book, Martin and Sylvia: Knitting from the Beginning,“ I’m happy to present a sweet family knitting pattern for all the darling nutty people in your life!
This is a pair of acorns, or rather, the whole acorn, in two hats. You can choose to knit the top (with an adorable stem!) or the bottom (with a cute little pointy end) of the acorn, in a child’s or adult’s size. You can also decide how fitted or slouchy you want your hat.
It is endlessly adaptable, whether you’re feeling nutty or not. Knit it up in everyone’s favorite color, or use up your scraps in a striping hat. The shape is basic so everyone can find a good fit for their head and personality.
The instructions are geared towards novice knitters, but is equally fun (and quick!) for experienced stitchers. No abbreviations or scary techniques…just a few simple increases and decreases. If i-cords (for the stem) are new to you, I’ve written out some basic instructions. I am also available for questions if they come up!
Suggested materials: dk (held double), worsted or heavy-worsted yarn, approx. 100 yards; size US10 1/2 double-pointed needles, one stitch marker (or piece of waste yarn or string).
