Would you like to build a snowman? Crochet a snowman that won’t melt away. Put a red hat and scarf on your snowman to bring cozy warmth to the holiday season.

This amigurumi piece is beginner friendly. The arms are crocheted to the body, so you don’t need to worry about sewing the limbs. The use of fuzzy yarn in the hat provides an opportunity to try a usually challenging material for crocheting. The challenge of working with the fuzzy yarn is finding the stitches to insert the hook into. In this project, the fuzzy yarn is used for only edging, so you don’t really need to crochet over it. That minimizes the difficulties of identifying stitches while giving your project a jolly winter look.

The pattern introduces the way to crochet the snowman, hat, scarf, and belt. It also includes the methods of embroidering eyes, smile, and belt buckle.

The PDF is written in English, and it includes:

  • a list of recommended materials and tools
  • a written pattern (in US terms)
  • step-by-step instructions
  • guiding images for each step

Crochet stitches used in this project:

  • chain stitch
  • slip stitch
  • single crochet stitch
  • half double crochet stitch
  • double crochet stitch
  • increase
  • decrease

Yarn:

  • Size 4 Medium for the snowman body, scarf, hat, and belt.
  • Size 10 crochet thread for embroidering the eyes, smile, and belt buckle.

The yarn and crochet hook sizes listed are just for references. Feel free to use other kinds of yarn you have and adjust the crochet hook size accordingly. Try to use a smaller size hook than recommended on the yarn label.

As a reference, the yarn used in the pattern’s step-by-step guiding images are:

  • Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn (gauge info on yarn label: 5 MM/13 SC/14 R) was used to make the snowman’s body (white, approx. 70 yds) and the belt (black, approx. 3.5 yds).
  • Lion Brand Basic Stitch yarn for the hat (red, approx. 12.5 yds) and scarf (red, approx. 6 yds).
  • Aunt Lydia crochet thread (size 10, black, yellow, a few inches of each) for embroidering the eyes, mouth, and belt buckle.
  • Bernat Pipsqueak yarn for the hat pom pom and edgings (approx. 5 yds).

The size of the snowman depends on the yarn weight and the crochet hook size.

As a reference, using the recommended materials and tools, the size of the snowman is approximately 6” tall (including the hat) and 4.5” wide (with the arms spread out).
