The Afternoon Bonnet
This pattern is an oversized bonnet, by default fit for an average adult head with a 22” circumference. All the measurements are listed so you can customize the size you make and the weight yarn you use!
This is a very beginner friendly pattern, with both pictures and written instructions. For seasoned knitters, this is a pretty quick, unique hat to add to your collection. If you’re new to knitting, this is a good project to learn about construction and picking up stitches.
The gauge is 20 stitches and 24 rows over 4” x 4” / 10cm x 10cm in stockinette stitch. The recommended yarn and needles are 5.0 mm with worsted weight yarn, but this pattern will work with pretty much any worsted weight yarn. I recommend a soft wool or wool blend. Wool is a common fiber for hats as it is warm, but you want it to be soft because this hat will touch your neck.
This can be a single skein project. Using worsted weight yarn on 5.0 mm needles, this took less than 200 yards - including the i-cords!
The yarn used was Plymouth Yarns Encore Worsted in the colorway was 9408 Rosebud.
