The Alpine Stitch Cardigan
No wonder the the Alpine Stitch grew so much in popularity. Its texture is so rich and elegant, its looks so gorgeous and yet it is surprisingly easy to learn. If you know single and double crochet, you can easily do this stitch. The secret to making the twisted points of the alpine stitch is front post stitches. These are just like making regular crochet stitches, but they go around previous stitches instead of through the tops of the stitches.
The Alpine stitch pattern consists of a 4-row repeat. On the right side of your work, you alternate double crochets and front post double crochets across the row. For the return row on the wrong side, you simply work single crochets across.
By staggering the post stitches every other row, you create a diamond-like texture, that adds wonderful depth to your work and produces a lovely, dense fabric.
When you combine this with the Knit Stitch rows for the ribbing and Slip Stitch rows in front loop only for the edging you get a beautiful warm cardigan.
I hope you’ll enjoy making this as much as I enjoyed designing it. If anything is unclear, you have my own support through messages.
