The Anchor Shawl
Knitting experience
The Anchor Shawl is designed for beginner knitters who learned all the basics (casting on, knitting, purling, casting off) and now want to take their knitting skills to a higher level.
To help you learning new skills, the pattern contains links to video tutorials. The tutorials are in Dutch, but they take you to the MirjamMolenbeek YouTube channel and under each video you have the option to choose subtitles in the language of your choice. If that doesn’t help enough, or you need English video’s for assistance, please feel free to contact me (info@mirjammolenbeek.nl).
More experienced knitters have tested the pattern and their feedback was that it’s also a perfect project for more experienced knitters: it’s an easy knit for days you just want something simple, but with enough variety to keep you entertained. Also: you could use a beautiful handdyed yarn with speckles or stripes, which is always a pleasure seeing how it knits up. Or take 2 different colours and knit the garter stitch sections in colour 1 and the stockinette stitch sections in colour 2. The possibilities are endless!
Size options
The pattern is written for DK yarn, average adult size. You can easily adjust: knit some more sections if you want it to be bigger, knit less sections if you want to make The Anchor Shawl for a little one. Offcourse you then need more or less yarn than indicated in the pattern.
You could also knit the pattern in fingering or worsted weight yarn. Please keep in mind you’ll then have to adjust the amount of yarn and the needle size.
Materials needed
- Sample is knit using 5 skeins (150 m per 50 g skein) of Isager Eco Baby (68% baby alpaca, 32% organic cotton) in colour E2S.
- Needle size: 80 or 100 cm 4 mm circular needle.
- 2 stitch markers
- tapestry needle
Gauge
18 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm. Washed and blocked measurement, in stockinette stitch.
Gauge isn’t super important for this pattern. You can customize the size easily by knitting fewer or more pattern repeats. The most important factor is that you like the drape and feel of the fabric: not too tight and not too loose.
Please note: if your gauge is way off, or if you choose to knit fewer or more pattern repeats, you’ll obviously need less/more yarn.
