The Art of Fugue (“Die Kunst der Fuge”) by Johann Sebastian Bach is an exercise in how far one can develop a single theme, in one key. With each successive fugue, Bach is treating his theme to a whole catalogue of contrapuntal variants— inversion, diminution, augmentation, mirroring, doubling…
He thus created a work so perfect in form, so infinitely beautiful, that it was thought by many to be an adequate human representation of the harmonia mundi.

The pattern of these socks consists of 3 simple, parallel lines which are mirrored and slanted, thus forming a complex, attractive all-over design.
