The Ashling Tote ~ Briggs & Little Version
This is for the “Canadian” version, using Briggs & Little Heritage Wool, my favourite wool for making felted bags.
US shoppers can buy this wool at the following site:
The Cascade 220 Wool version is now available here:
The Ashling Tote ~ Cascade 220 Version
Large and roomy, the Ashling Tote is the perfect opportunity to explore your creativity in the realm of wearable art. With double-stranding and moderate felting, you’ll retain stitch detail without sacrificing thickness and durability.
Pattern includes 7 pages of very detailed instructions and photos for every step of the process.
Embroidery instructions given are very basic, but I do include one of my favorite tips in laying out your design on the bag.
Approximate finished size: 15” wide, 11” high, and depth of base is 5”
Difficulty level: advanced beginner
4 skein, (880 yards) of Briggs & Little Heritage** (worsted weight)
Size US 11 / 8mm circular needle, 29” long
Size US 11 / 8mm straight needles for doing strap, if desired, but not necessary.
One size US L / 8mm crochet hook
3/16” thick foam board for a sturdy base (available at Michaels) optional
Using Cascade 220 Wool:
Using this will yield slightly different results. For one thing, more detail tends to be lost, unless you are extra diligent in monitoring the felting process. Width also tends to be lost, along with some height.
The Cascade version is now available in the link at the top of this description.
