The Banning Beanie
If you are looking for a hat that looks great on a man or a woman then look no further! The Banning Beanie pattern has you covered!
This hat is VERY warm. Everyone who has one that I’ve made for them says they don’t want to take it off. It is like a squishy hug for your head!
This is a very beginning friendly hat due to the fact that it only uses knit stitches and has no decreases. There are three style options depending on whether you are making the hat for a girl or a boy and whether you want to add a pom or not. Color changes are optional, but if you are up to the challenge two completely different looks can be achieved in addition to a solid color hat.
I took all the guess work out and give you specific row counts. I also include lots of photos to help you along in the pattern.
Size:
This is almost a one size fits all hat. This brim is 20.5 inches around, but easily stretches to 22 inches in order to fit age 8 on up to adult.
Gauge:
A swatch test of 18 stitches & 28 rows should yield a 4 inch x 4 inch square of knit stitches
Yarn type: You can use any worsted weight yarn for this hat, but you really want to pick the softest yarn you can. Caron Simply Soft and Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn is ideal if you are going to use acrylic.
Pattern Notes:
You will notice that there aren’t any decreases in the crown of the hat. This is because the pattern is designed to be the perfect height and cinch up without any added bulk. The key is to not add too many rows. Exact row counts are given for beanie, pom hat, and slouch styles. Test your gauge to make sure your hat won’t get too tall or you will end up with unwanted bulk.
