Sometimes, simple and cosy is all you need. This pattern is designed to showcase that one skein of special DK-weight yarn that you’ve been hoarding… and because a cowl is worn near your face, you can be sure everyone will admire your new creation - and you can snuggle your favourite yarn every time you wear it!

This pattern requires one 100g skein of DK wool or merino and is worked on a 40cm circular cable. you will also need 1 cable needle (or a double pointed needle) to work the cables.

The size is suitable for most adults and teens as is, and will also fit most children. Knit more cable repeats for a taller version (second sample photo has 7 cable twists instead of 4). Cast on 1.5x the number of stitches to create a longer cowl which hangs lower, or 2x the number of stitches for a cowl which could be wrapped twice (third sample photo is a double-length version, which could be blocked out even longer if desired).
