This hat is a recipe that builds a pattern from measurements of a gauge swatch and the intended wearer’s head.

We work on a particular gauge swatch in the Berkeley Decal. It is intended to be the first piece with which one learns to knit.

If you are not taking the decal and wish to use this worksheet, simply knit a swatch 24 stitches across and 2 inches long in stockinette.
