What’s this: This is The Black Hat – also known as the Dana hat.

Why should I make this: I don’t know why YOU will make it, but I made it when my mom looked at me, horrified to see that I was wearing a (gasp) store-bought hat.

When will this get the most use: Throughout Winter

Who is it for: Offered in three sizes to fit heads 18’’ (45 cm), 20’’ (50 cm), and 22’’ (55 cm) around.

Where do I start: This pattern is rated Easy - you’ll need to know or be eager to learn the basic crochet stitches and working in rounds. You will need 50g each of a sport and a dk weight yarn (used here, Red Heart Fashion Soft & Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour), a 5.5mm hook, and a 4.5mm hook. Other notions: a pompom, 2 buttons, a yarn needle, and some stitch markers.

Je commence où? Modèle Facile – vous devez être confortable avec les mailles de base (ou avoir envie d’apprendre le crochet) et le travail en tours. Vous aurez besoin de 50 g chacune de laines de poids ‘sport’ et ‘dk’ (ici, Red Heart Fashion Soft & Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour), d’un crochet 5.5 mm et d’un crochet 4.5 mm. Vous aurez aussi besoin d’un pompon, de 2 boutons, d’une aiguille à laine et de marque-points.
