A timeless piece deserves a timeless construction, and that’s just how the Boyfriend Slipover is worked. You will begin by working down the back yoke flat, shaping the shoulders with short rows. After working the back yoke, you’ll work down the front yoke, shoulder by shoulder, including shaping for the V-neck. You’ll join the front yoke at the base of the V-neck and work the rest of the front yoke flat before joining the slipover in the round at the bottom of the armholes. The body is then worked in the round straight down to the hems. For finishing touches, you’ll pick up stitches and work in 1x1 rib for the armholes and collar.

Difficulty: This is an advanced-beginner knit (2 out of 5). If you’re new to knitting, you’ll find this funky, but it’s definitely a great one for anyone who feels comfortable with the basics. This would be a great first garment!

Yarn: you can use any yarn that achieves gauge! This pattern will work best with two strands of lace-weight yarn held double OR one strand of lace-weight yarn held with one strand of fingering-weight yarn OR one strand of DK-weight yarn.

Yardage: Here’s how much you’ll need for each size: 3 (3, 3, 4) 4, 4, 4 (5, 5) skeins, where 1 skein = 25g, 218 yds (210m)^. Note that these are totals per strand. If you’re holding the same yarn double, you’ll need double the recommended amount for your size. For example, if knitting size 1 with two strands of lace-weight mohair, you’d need 6 skeins at 25g each. If knitting size 1 with a strand of lace-weight mohair and a strand of fingering-weight wool, you’d need 654 yards of each yarn quality. If you’re holding a DK-weight yarn single-stranded, take the total yardage based on the skein recommendations. For example, if knitting size 1, you’d need 654 yards of yarn.

^Yarn estimates are based on Standard 2 length. For shorter garments, you may be able to use a skein less per size.
