This vest has a forgiving fit and will flatter many body shapes. The classic vest back gives the garment structure, while the front is constructed as a simple straight piece of knitting with angled edges creating points at the front. The front shape creates a strong, slimming vertical line on the body. The edges fold back into a shawl collar exposing a nubby fabric. The stitch pattern lays flat and creates a gentle transition at each colour change, subtly blending the shades.

This vest is worked in two pieces. The back is knit from the bottom edge up. The front is knit in one long section, with increases at each end.

The two row Broken Rib Stitch Pattern has been written in an eight row format for the front. This is to aid the knitter in aligning the stitch pattern while working the increases.

The size numbers are the finished measurement of each garment. Make sure the size chosen includes the appropriate amount of ease for your personal preferences. A minimum of 2 inches (5 cm) is recommended. To verify, measure an existing garment in a similar weight for comparison. All length measurements in the instructions are suggestions only and should be customized to suit intended wearer.

The edges of the vest back are self-finishing and include row by row instructions to smooth the uneven stair step cast off method.

A looser cast off edge may be more easily created by working the cast off with a larger needle.
