The Carnival Bag
The front and rear panels of this pretty fairisle shoulder bag are worked in the round, from the outside inwards, decreasing at the corners as you go. Towards the centre, change from a circular needle to DPNs. The strap and sides of the bag are also worked in the round, and the flap is worked flat. The panels are then joined using single crochet stitches, but if you don’t like crochet, you could use blanket stitch instead.
The PDF pattern includes charts and instructions, and there are also helpful photos of the different stages here.
The original was made with Stylecraft’s limited edition pack of 10 different shades (see web link above), but you can always make it using other Stylecraft shades, or another yarn knitting to approximately 22s, 30r per 4 inch /10cm square in stockinette on 4mm needles. If you use 10 shades, you’ll need less than 50g per shade. The body of the bag is approximately 25cm/10inches square.
Other equipment needed: 4mm circular needle of 60cm/24inches, AND 4mm circular needle of 100cm/39inches. Also a set of five 4mm double-pointed needles. Magnetic or similar closure for bag. Darning needle and crochet hook. Optional lining (cotton fabric, iron-on interfacing, thread).
