This is an Intermediate to Advanced Level knitting pattern. The camisole is designed to have either one or two of the lace repeats at the bottom edge of the garment, the rest of the body is stockinette with eyelet and purl accent details around the edge of the neckline. You can choose to mirror the picots at the bottom edge of the garment around the straps and neckline or choose to knit an i-cord along the neckline and the edge of the straps. There are 2 different fit options: 1) straight fit, i.e. no shaping around the waist so the garment flows freely around the waist 2) fitted waistline, i.e. the waist section of the garment is made to fit closely to your waist and then increases are worked so the camisole closely fits your bust. Note: The straight fit variation is rated for intermediate knitters. The fitted waistline variation is rated for advanced knitters due to combining made-to-measure design with a set size pattern.

How is the garment constructed?
This camisole is knit in the round from the bottom edge up, once you reach the neckline section the back stitches are set aside and the front neckline stitches are knit flat (back and forth). The eyelet lace section around the entire top edge of the garment is picked up and knit before moving onto knitting the two straps. Finally stitches are picked up along the outside edge of the strap, the outside edge of the neckline shaping and the back to knit the picot detail, the same process is repeated on the inside section of the neckline and straps to create the same detail. Videos and diagrams are included to better explain this construction.

Materials

  • 3.25 mm circular needles (or the size needed to obtain gauge). Recommended cable length: between 24 to 36 in (61 to 91.5 cm)
  • A spare set of needles for setting aside stitches (this is 100% optional, I just personally find a second set of needles to be helpful. Instead you can use scrap yarn to temporarily hold stitches)
  • approximately 212, 236, 260 (283, 307) 330, 354, 377 g / 7.48, 8.32, 9.17 (9.98, 10.83) 11.64, 12.49, 13.3 oz of #3 weight yarn (51 g/105 m/1.8 oz/115yds per skein). 100% cotton, 100% wool, a cotton blend or a wool blend are recommended. You will need to use a fiber type that blocks nicely. Note: These estimates are for a full-length straight fit camisole with the set gauge. Following any of the modifications will alter the amount of yarn needed. My purple camisole was made with Berroco Vintage DK (a wool/acrylic/nylon blend) in a color that I believe has been discontinued since I can’t find the shade online. My pink camisole was made with We Are Knitters Egyptian Cotton (100% cotton) in the color “bubblegum”. My white camisole was made with Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton Solids (100% cotton) in the color “ivory”.
  • 4-5 removeable stitch markers, wire stitch markers are recommended since you are using lightweight yarn.
  • cable needle or dpn
  • tapestry needle
  • ruler and scrap yarn or a flexible measuring tape for finding your size
