The Choice Is Yours Cowl
The Choice is Yours Cowl is an excellent beginner/intermediate pattern providing an accessible entry point for knitters learning the art of colorwork as well as a classically quick knit for more advanced colorwork enthusiasts. Because the beginning and end of the knitting are grafted together, the final piece is not only reversible, but also twice as warm. Choose your yarn, choose your needles, and choose which of the colorwork motifs you want to incorporate into your cowl. Then decide how you want to wear your masterpiece and flaunt it. This pattern is wholeheartedly pro-choice.
You can easily modify your finished results by casing on multiples of 16, 8 or 4 sts, depending on which of the charts you select for your project. The pattern provides suggested CO numbers, but if you want a wider or deeper cowl, simply knit a gauge swatch and do some math. Same goes for color combinations. Want to use up a bunch of scraps? Use four colors instead of two? As long as you’ve got the total suggested number of yards for each finished piece, it’ll work. This project is perfect for all of your brilliant ideas. So, grab what you’ve got and get creative.
You will be knitting your cowl in the round from the bottom up, and then grafting the two open ends together using the Kitchener stitch. You will need an extra circular needle to hold your live stitches while you graft. The extra needle can be a smaller gauge, but the cord should be the same length as the one you knit with.
If you don’t want to graft your project together, you can choose to add ribbing to the top and bottom of your cowl.
