The Chonkiest Chickens of the Valley
FINAL PATTERN SUPER SALE — Up to 50% off until August 24th! (After that, I’ll be taking all my patterns down from every sales channel)
PATTERN: TOP-DOWN / LEVEL: BEGINNER
Create your own seamless super chonky chickens with their eggs, inspired by Stardew Valley.
For this project you’ll need:
Suggested materials:
- 3.5 mm crochet hook with medium-weight yarn (4/Worsted) in the colours of your choice for the chickens, beak, comb/wattle, and eggs.
- A small piece of black yarn to embroider the eyes.
- If you want to make them in the Stardew Valley colours you’ll need: white, brown and bright yellow for the chickens with orange for their combs and wattle. Blue with purple for the blue chickens, and black for the void chicken with red for its features. You’ll also need yellow for their beaks, and black yarn for embroidering the eyes and the void chicken’s brows.
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stuffing fibre
Yarn information:
For this project, I used:
* Medium-weight yarn (4/Worsted) Bernat Super Value 100% acrylic from Yarnspirations
For an even chonkier chicken I used the same hook size with a felted yarn:
* Super bulky weight-yarn (6) Bernat Felted 62% acrylic, 21% wool, 17% nylon from Yarnspiration
Size:
My finished piece made with medium-weight yarn measures approximately 9 cm. And the one made with super bulky yarn measures about 11 cm. However, the size of your finished item may vary depending on your yarn tension and the materials used. If you’re using a different hook or yarn size, be sure to adjust the placement and size of the eyes accordingly.

Tips:
-
If you’re unfamiliar with any crochet stitches used in this pattern, try searching YouTube for “stitch name + tutorial.” You’ll find plenty of beginner-friendly, detailed video guides.
-
Rows without a mention of a chain between them are worked in continuous rounds. To keep track, use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of each row.
-
In crochet, yarn over (YO) and yarn under (YU) refer to how the yarn is wrapped around the hook when making stitches. Yarn over (bringing the yarn over the hook from back to front) is the standard technique and is used throughout all my patterns unless stated otherwise. Yarn under (bringing the yarn under the hook from front to back) creates tighter stitches and a firmer fabric. Using yarn under instead of yarn over may result in slight differences, such as a smaller final piece, more visible slip stitches, and a firmer, less soft texture.
