The Color of His Eyes
I have tried to convince my son to wear knitted objects for several years. It’s not that he finds anything wrong with my knitting. He’s actually one of my greatest admirers; even as a teen, he would bring his friends into my studio and show off the walls of yarn and the objects I made. But he always declined my offers to knit something for him.
Now, what he does love is woven scarves. He has a small collection of them, and he is visibly proud to wear them. The problem is, I don’t find weaving pleasurable- at all! So I’ll offer him this scarf, knit in tweedy yarn the color of his eyes, with a unfussy geometric border. Perhaps it will be the piece that changes his mind about knitted accessories?
If not, it was a relaxing, pleasurable project. The double thick scarf is knit end-to-end, beginning with a provisional cast on. Each end is bordered with an easily memorized stranded motif, with miles of soothing stockinette in the round in between. It’s perfect knitting for watching your favorite shows, or your online biochemistry lectures. The final step is a three needle bind off to close each end of the tube.

Crochet provisional cast on
Two-color stranded knitting in the round
Three needle bind off
