In my country, Australia, summers are HOT! You can forget about wearing short sleeve wool tops - cooler fibers are required! Linen is a beautiful, drapey fibre which looks stylish at any time of the day. It also has amazing cooling properties, enabling it to wick away the moisture to keep you fresh no matter what the mercury reads!
Hence, for The Coolah Top, I have used lace weight linen to create a top you would be comfortable in at all times of the day. If linen is not your thing, check out the projects for other yarn inspiration!
The top is knit in garter stitch from the bottom up and in the round to the armholes. The body is shaped so that it is wider over the hips, decreasing slightly to the waist. The front and back are then separated and worked separately back and forward to the shoulders. After shaping, the shoulders are joined using the three needle bind off. All trims are worked as you go so there is no picking up stitches to finish.
The lace panel is very simple, with the lace worked on the Right Side only. The Wrong Side is purled. The only lace stitches that are used are yarn over, k2tog and ssk. So this garment is suitable for an adventurous beginner.
