The Crosby Hat
The Crosby Hat ( #THECROSBYHAT) is a double brim knit hat made with worsted weight yarn. Color combos are endless and yarn color info for 8 example hats are included in the pattern.
Supplies needed:
• 5mm (US size 8) 16” circular needles or whatever side needed to obtain gauge
• Worsted Weight yarn in 3-4 colors. (Don’t stretch when measuring out yards)
• Yarn Recommendations: Caron Simply Soft, Lion Brand Heartland,
Premier Everyday Yarn, Wool Ease, I Love This Yarn, Encore, Patons Classic Wool
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Four 5mm (US size 8) Double Pointed Needles (DPN’s)
• Stitch marker
• OPTIONAL: faux fur pom or yarn pom
Size:
Fits age 8+
Cast on numbers are noted in the instructions to allow you to make this hat for head sizes 21 inches and up.
Gauge:
A swatch test of 18 Sts & 24 rows should yield a 4 inch x 4 inch square of stocking stitches or knit stitches if doing gauge in the round on 5mm needles.
Pattern Features:
Page 5 is a condensed version of the pattern if you want to save paper and only print one page and mark off your rows as you go.
There are 6 color changes in the pattern, but that doesn’t mean you need 6 different colors of yarn. In fact I encourage you to repeat colors.* A coloring sheet is provided so you can map out the order of color changes/repeats. A sample graphic of six color combos to illustrate the variety of options you have for repeating colors.
- Tips for picking four colors for your hat are also included.
