The Cyprus Tank Top is a classic tank top with a V-neckline and V-back detail. It uses a very simple stitch called the wattle stitch. This stitch is a perfect “next step” stitch for confident beginners because it only uses single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc) and chain (ch). The top is made out of two identical panels that have very simple shaping. The garment is designed to have a slightly deeper V-shape to help differentiate it from sweater vests, but it is very easy to raise the neckline if desired. Simply make the body section longer and shorten the shoulder sections. The beauty of this design is that you can customize it to your preferences with stripes, multicolor yarn, adding a scalloped edge, adding a ribbed detail to the bottom edge, adding a sc edging in a contrast color or sewing on crocheted appliques…the possibilities are basically endless! And because of the way the sizing system works, you can also use any yarn weight between #2-4.

Please note, if you are a confident beginner I strongly suggest reading through all of the provided information in the pattern and watching the bolded tutorials linked in the helpful links section for the easiest time following this pattern.

How does the sizing work? This pattern uses a sizing system that is very similar to made-to-measure patterns. You input your gauge swatch measurement and bust measurement into the simple formula that only uses basic division and multiplication to find your correct size. This allows you to customize your tank top by using almost any combination of number 2, 3 or 4 weight yarn and gauge measurement that you would like. This pattern is designed to fit adult women with a 30 in -60 in (76 cm -152.5 cm) bust, but because of using whatever gauge measurement you would like it can really fit almost any size if you use the right yarn weight.

Materials

  • 4.5 mm crochet hook or the size specified on the yarn label.
  • 200-500 grams / 7-17.5 oz of sport (#2), dk (#3) or worsted (#4) weight yarn. Wool, cotton or acrylic are the recommended fiber types. Because the size you make is calculated based on your gauge, I can’t give exact yarn estimates for each size. I suggest looking at the example gallery included in the pattern for a better idea of how much yarn you will need for your top.
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
