The Daisy's Spell Shawl
The Daisy’s Spell is a fully reversible, triangular shawl using a classic Shetland Lace pattern, forming rows of daisies on a garter stitch ground. No purl stitch required throughout.
The construction of this lace shawl is refreshingly simple. It is worked sideways, in one piece, starting at the top left corner and finishing with the right garter stitch edge.
The shawl size and yarn weight is easily adaptable. Just start knitting until there is enough yarn left to finish the daisies plus 12 rows of garter stitch and the cast off row.
The sample shawl shown here is made with
620m Juniper Moon Farm Findley Lace, 50% silk, 50% merino, 789yds (730m) per 100g ball, col. 40 Sea Green, blocked size 60” (152cm) wide and 34” (86cm) deep.
Approx. yardage and shawl sizes for lace yarns are:
437 yds (400m) = 39 x 22.5” (100 x 57cm)
546 yds (500m) = 48 x 27.5”(123cm x 70cm)
875 yds (800m) = 77 x 43”(196 x 110cm)
1094 yds (1000m) = 100 x 54”(245 x 138cm).
The shawl can be worked in fingering or even DK weight yarns as well, but will require a different yardage.
The shawl is suitable for beginning lace knitters. All pattering is worked on right side rows and requires only basic lace stitches such as right leaning and double centered decreases. The instructions are fully written and in form of charts.
