I made this pattern for a throw pillow I’m making, inspired by Harry Potter. It could be adjusted for chunkier yarn, or thinner yarn, but I haven’t tried this.

There’s several charts included. 1 version making a thicker design, 1 thinner, and an offset version that will be used in my throw pillow, as well as written instructions

I used a worsted weight yarn, size 8 needles, 4mm beads with a 1mm opening, and a .75 crotchet hook to add the beads on. Personally, i would recommend the 6mm beads though as the 4mm were a tad difficult to work with.

The yellow squares on the chart indicate which stitch to add the bead on, then knit that stitch through the back loop.
