The Emperor's New Vest

This is a vest in Tunisian crochet. It has no sleeves as such, but the shoulders are broad. The entire vest is slightly see-through, and the mesh created by the cuts in the front will reveal some bare skin unless you are wearing something under the vest.
The vest is crocheted top-down, so you can adjust the length as you work. The entire vest can be crocheted flat, but the pattern specifies that the lower trunk is crocheted in the round.
If you want, you can add armhole edgings to the vest. For that extra special science-fiction effect, consider adding plastic cords inside the armhole edgings!
The two patterns “The Emperor’s New Vest” and “The Empress’ Tunic Dress” were made as separate patterns, but both were inspired by science fiction, they do complement each other quite nicely, and the models are made in the same type of linen and almost metallic yarn. When I first saw these models together, I somehow associated them with the characters Magenta and Riff-Raff from Rocky horror show…

The Emperor
The Emperor stood on the bridge of his brand new cruiser.
Every part of the grand spaceship was modern and glistening.
With a vessel like this he could meet any threat.
He felt strong and proud.
