NOTE - This design would happily lend itself to heavier yarns; I suggest a US size 11 for super bulky weight and be mindful of yardage needed for such.

I wanted to design a cowl with a simple, mindless pattern, yet one that was bold, one that would lend itself to different yarns, and one that captured a Jane Austen feeling. Whether you knit the everyday Jane cowl in super bulky yarn or worsted weight, it will give warmth, comfort and all the Janeite vibes.

This cowl illustrates the peaks and valleys of friendship, love and life in Jane Austen’s novels. You will find her grounded, sometimes stubborn, maybe ever constant characters standing firm in garter stitch bands while willowy hearts and uncertain affections dance in deep knit sections, until they become strong like the garter stitches after heartbreak. Some characters can be in both; couple’s circumstances certainly move up and down as these knitted portions continue.
