Knitting Pattern, the Explorer, Cat Hat

Length: 8 inches (20.3 cm)
Circumference: measures 19.25 inches (Medium/One size fits most), up to 23.8 inches (Large) with flexibility (48.9 to 60.5 cm)

Pattern is for one size fits most and the brim circumference may be adjusted with elastic band to a child/adult head size, from small to medium. The hat size may slightly be enlarged to large/x-large if the hat is made with US 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles and medium weight yarn. Please check the gauge information above if you wish to make adjustment for sizing.

Instructions are written for both right and left handed, and supplemented with a chart and photos. Please make sure you are familiar with the keywords below to follow the pattern comfortably.

MATERIALS
Soft cotton yarn, medium weight (4), 3.5 oz (100 g)
For circular hat knitting: US size 8 (5 mm) circular and double-pointed knitting needles, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
For cable design: one US size 8 (5 mm) double-pointed needle or a cable needle to hold sts;
Place marker, or a small piece of yarn in contrasting color
Elastic thread of similar color (if not available, white for lighter color yarn, or black for darker color yarn), 30 inches (76 cm) long
Tapestry needle

GAUGE
18 sts and 26 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) on size US 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needle
