Would you like a hammock to relax in after a long day? (Or even put your doll in?) This is a hammock designed for farmers! Made with baler twine, fencing staples, any ol’ rope (heck, you could even use a lariat or two) and poplar sticks, this is the ideal hammock for a country gal and her family. Holds up to 320 lbs in my testing and is sturdy and comfortable!
You can easily make this a doll’s hammock with no problem at all, just use thread! Here is the testing thread, my single tester used thread for her doll and had no problem at all! She loves it.
You will need 450-500 m of red plastic baler twine (also comes in blue or green) or other high-tensile material about worsted or aran weight, which can be found at farm stores. Note that there will be a lot extra, but you could make another one for a friend or just keep the extra around, it makes great string for any task. I may also have another pattern soon that will use more of the baler twine.
The brand is here. That’s a single roll and less footage, and I am not sure if it’s the right thickness. The stuff I am working with didn’t come with a label, but I know for sure that you could use this. Just go into a farm store and look around for something that’s somewhat worsted weight or aran weight, and don’t worry about meterage. You will have enough with just one big spool, and plenty left over. Do not get the sisal twine, which is yellowish and rough. Get the smoother polypropylene/plastic stuff.
Construction:
Netting worked head to foot, then edging added at short edges.
