The PDF attached to this pattern is labeled “Winding Shards”. The name was changed midway through the design process, but not renamed on the PDF. It is the same pattern though.

According to Greek mythology, the father of Icarus fashioned his son wings out of wax and feathers to give him the ability to fly. Not heeding his father’s earlier warnings, he flew so high and so close to the sun that his wings melted, sending him crashing into the sea below. This shawl, inspired by the tale, is created by knitting short row garter wedges with some picot edges with a few stitches being bound off each time, the perfect project for some casual knitting. Some fringe is also added onto each picot bobble to represent the wax melting off the feathers of Icarus’ wings. Multiple yarn choices can be used, from one color, to stripes, to a complete stash bust of a collection of yarn bits!

PATTERN NOTES: Because of the endless choices of yarn that can be used in this project, I did not include the gauge measurements. Therefore, it is not critical.

Madelinetosh Tosh Sock: About 250 yards each.

• Color A: Freia Ombre Lace: Amaranth – 425 yards
• Color B: Malabrigo Lace: 096 Sunset – 65 yards.
