This long wingspan shawl features two distinct knitting patterns. The focal stitch is a true lace, and the edging is a famous one from the Shetland Islands. Together they make a beautiful shawl, which can be worn in many different ways. The very wide wingspan allows you both the drape and flexibility you want to have in a shawl. The focal stitch is unusual enough to hold both your interest in knitting it, and everyone else’s when you wear it.
The shawl measures 68 inches at the widest points across the top and is 28 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles. The shawl requires approximately 1000 yards of yarn making it both a perfect warm lacy shawl for the fall.
The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.
Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a good knowledge of lace knitting).
The yarn used in the sample is Paulie by Shalimar Yarns and requires under 3 skeins to knit.
The sample was expertly test knitted by Mesha McMullen who can be contacted at meshamcmullen@outlook.com, and who is known on Ravelry as MeshaMarie.
