The shape of this shawl is a lovely, wearable, elongated triangle, with a gently curving upper edge, and it contains enough repetition for you to relax into, with enough detail to keep it interesting. You can knit the entire thing with one color, or choose to make contrasting eyelet stripes. In fact, a soft, airy, lace weight mohair would make a lovely contrast choice. Speaking of that, you can choose to knit with fingering or DK weight yarn. (Of course, you can always go rogue and just use whatever other yarn weight you’d like. The needle size and amount of yarn will vary, so be sure to adjust accordingly.) You can wear your shawl as a cozy wrap, or draped lightly over your shoulders. Wear it however you like - after all, this is your time to flourish!

MATERIALS:

Note: This shawl can be knitted using DK or fingering weight yarns. The eyelet sections also work well for using mohair or other fun yarns.

DK YARN REQUIREMENTS

SMALL: 778 yards for one color, OR 310 yards for main color and 468 yards for contrasting eyelet stripes
LARGE: 1,002 yards for one color, OR 496 yards for main color and 506 yards for contrasting eyelet stripes

FINGERING WEIGHT YARN REQUIREMENTS

SMALL: 585 yards for one color, OR 269 yards for main color and 316 yards for contrasting eyelet stripes
LARGE: 790 yards for one color, OR 430 yards for main color and 360 yards for contrasting eyelet stripes

SHOWN IN:

Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK (100% merino, 218 yards/115 grams) - Hunter (greens) - SMALL
Lichen and Lace (pinks) - Matte Sock (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon, 400 yards/100 grams) - Clover for stockinette sections AND Marsh Mohair (72% kid mohair, 28% silk, 459 yards/50 grams) - Sweet Pea for eyelet striping sections SMALL
Storyteller Yarns (blues) - Sock (75% super wash merino, 25% nylon, 463 yards/100 grams) - Razzle (stockinette sections) AND Kid Mohair Silk (72% kid mohair, 28% silk, 459 yards/50 grams) Razzle (eyelet striping sections) LARGE

ALSO NEEDED:

24” to 32” circular needles between a size 3 -5 for the fingering version, and a 7 - 8 for the DK version - or whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean
4 stitch markers
Tapestry needle to weave in ends

APPROXIMATE GAUGES:

Exact gauge isn’t that important - it’s a shawl, after all
The Lichen and Lace and Storyteller Yarns fingering weight samples were knitted on size 3 needles and produced a gauge of 20 stitches and 36 rows to 4”/10 cm. after blocking
The Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK sample was knitted on size 7 needles and produced a gauge of 16 stitches and 28 rows to 4”/10 cm. after blocking
