The Foldover
The Foldover cowl is a very quick-to-crochet cowl that can be made for anyone in any size. And by using worsted weight yarn you can make this cowl in a few hours.
The cowl is crocheted flat with a four-row repeat.
and then it is seamed with a simple stitch, and then folded in half for wearing.
NOTE ABOUT STITCH PATTERN: The four-row repeat is four unique rows and requires that you pay attention to the instructions/chart for each row. It is not a two-row repeat even though every other row seems similar. These are four different rows. This stitch pattern is not hard but requires attention to the instructions for each row and the beginning and ending of each row. I’m writing this as a response to a couple comments I’ve gotten where it was thought to be a two-row repeat, and that it’s not working out. If you follow the instructions it works out just fine. :-)
NOTE ABOUT GAUGE: This is a project where gauge is important. Check your gauge according to info on first page of the pattern. If you don’t get gauge your rectangle will be off and you may not get a good result. Adjust the hook size so that you are getting the correct gauge.
The pattern is for three neck sizes, and because the endpoint is measured, you can easily customize the neck circumference and determine your stopping point as you go. Wet blocking is not necessary, but can be done if you need to straighten your edges.
I used Berroco Sesame yarn (230 yards/100 grams) in the color Zeppole (#7459). This is a beautiful marled yarn that comes in quite a few lovely colorways. And, with three skeins of Sesame you can make two cowls!
The Foldover cowl is perfect for wearing with your favorite t-shirt, button down shirt or jacket. This cowl is simple and easy to wear and will provide the ultimate neck warmth for cold temperatures.
And, because it is so quick to make, The Foldover makes a great gifting project for anyone in any size.
