The Friday Beanie
Casual Fridays with a twist--literally! The twisted stitching adds a bold and unique look to the classic ribbed hat. Unlike many other ribbed hat patterns, crown shaping on The Friday Beanie maintains its twisted rib pattern all the way up! Knit with a chunky yarn, this hat is wondrously squishy and warm, but it’s also super easy to adapt to other sizes, yarn types, and gauges.
There are 4 sizes and 2 lengths included in the pattern.
Baby/Toddler (Child, Teen/Adult S, Adult L)
Fits 15-18 (18-20, 20-22, 22-25)” head
7.5 (8.5, 9.5, 10.5)” short length
10 (11, 12, 13)” long length
Note that the largest size maximizes use of the entire skein of yarn. Variations in gauge may affect wool requirements, and you may choose to purchase a second skein to be safe.
Experienced knitters should be able to adapt the pattern to other yarn weights using notes provided.
Errata:
T-CDD: (Twisted Centered Double Decrease) Slip the first stitch purlwise with yarn in the back. Twist the next stitch by inserting the right needle through the back loop from back to front and slipping it. Remove marker. Place both stitches back on the left needle. Insert the right needle into the next 2 stitches as if to k2tog and slip both together. Knit the next stitch. Pass the two slipped stitches together over the stitch you just knit. Replace marker.
- The bolded step in the twisted centered double decrease above may be better interpreted as “Twist the next stitch by slipping it as if to p tbl (inserting the right needle through the back loop from back to front).”
