The Gaia Spacecraft
Gaia is an innovative spacecraft designed and launched by ESA in 2013 with the goal of creating the most detailed view of stars in the Milky Way! This pattern is for a cute and cuddly version of Gaia that you can hold in your hand or hang up as decor!
This mini Gaia is fairly easy to construct, as it’s almost entirely made in the round with slip stitches, single and double crochet stitches, and some back post single crochet stitches. The basic structure is made in grey/pewter, and the embellishments/slip stitch seams are made in gold/ginger fox, black, and white.
Gaia doesn’t use much yarn, you will need:
Flutterby Chunky in Pewter: Just under 1 ball (100g)
Flutterby Chunky in Ginger Fox: Less than half a ball (50g)
Flutterby Chunky in Black: Less than half a ball (50g)
Flutterby Chunky in White: Less than 10g
You will also need a bit of stuffing, I used about half a bag (200g) of Trimit’s Toy Filling.
Good yarn alternatives are Wolans Baby Bunny, Cygnet Jelly Baby or Jelly Baby Glitter, and Hobbii Honey Bunny or Honey Bunny Shine.
You can hold a strand of glittery thread with Flutterby to create a glimmery Gaia (I recommend either Jomil’s Starmist, Lincatex Gold Rush, or Anchor Artiste Metallic).
Gauge: The gauge I achieved with a 5mm hook was 13 sc sts by 10 rows, however you do NOT need to match this perfectly! I recommend just using a hook that gives you neat and tight stitches, regardless of gauge.
