A little history about grain sack stripes:

The design features stripes found on antique grain sacks. In the past, grain sacks were very useful in transporting a family’s grain to the mill and they were often personalized to be easily identified. Families would have their own stripe design and colors commonly seen in grain sack stripes were blue or red.

About the pattern:

To pay tribute to this classic design, we wanted to bring forth a knitted version of the stripes that so many of us hold so dear. This napkin ring is knit sideways, featuring off-centered stripes for the front of the piece that will be in view, as well as one stripe along the back of the ring that helps when aligning the table setting. Feel free to set the napkin ring down onto the back stripe to have a consistently placed table setting throughout.

To allow for a bit of structure to the project, the napkin ring is designed with an i-cord edge at both openings of the ring. This makes for an easier application and removal of the ring time after time. We also opted for more of a larger width to display the stripes clearly throughout the entire pattern.

Color 1 (C1): 842 Oatmeal Heather - 100 g | 284 yds
Color 2 (C2): 840 Charcoal Heather - 100 g | 284 yds

Needles:
US 4.0 / 3.5 mm - 16” or 24” circular needle or DPNs

Gauge:
23 sts & 33 rows = 4” / 10 cm

Optional: Tapestry needle, scissors, and row counter.
