The Green Man’s body is crocheted in the round forming a cone shape with a circle of stiff card glued into the base. You will need to fill the cone with toy stuffing as you go. I have suggested Hayfield Bonus DK for the head and body as this works up to the correct size, some other DK yarns I have found to be too thin. The decorative leaves can be made from other DK yarns in suitable colours. You will need about 50g of yarn for the body.

The Green Man and nest require at least intermediate skills while the robin that I have recently added is quite tricky because it is worked in the round and you will need to carry the colours across the back and it is very small. The robin was made from 4 ply cotton but acrylic or wool would do just as well. The robins’ eyes were made with two tiny black beads and the beak from thick thread stiffened with glue.

The pattern contains some colour photos to help with the making up. The finished size is approx 36cm to the tips of the oak leaves.
