The Grid Lines Coaster from THE MODERN COLLECTION

Crisp lines for a fresh look.

A little about grid stripes:

Whether you’re used to seeing grid lines in a spreadsheet, set of blueprints, or even in historical art, ‘the grid’ is no new concept to society. Recently the design has been popping up in interior design and decor as well, adorning wallpaper, bedspreads and linens, drapes, and even tableware. Calling grid lines ‘minimalistic and clean’ can be seen as true, however it’s fascinating how complex and grounding grids can be as well.

This simple yet timeless design can suit most households, pairing with many colors and patterns that already exist in the home. It pairs with stripes, solids, or other accent patterns in your home textiles.

About the pattern:

To provide a bit of timelessness into your home, we want to bring forth our knitted version of the grid. This pot holder features a rectangle shape with grid lines throughout the entire front, allowing for a continuous and balanced look over the project. The pot holder measures 8.75” x 9” / 22.22 cm x 22.86 cm, allowing enough of a surface for most pot and pan bases.

To bring a clean and finished edge to the piece, we have inserted an i-cord bind off around the perimeter. This design is tailored for a fun and finished look, allowing a clean edge to tie the project together and provide a nice ‘stop’ for the edge of a pot or pan.

In contrast to our napkin rings and coaster, this pattern utilizes the yarn being held double - having two strands being used together throughout the project, along with the needle used, allows for more of a dense fabric. Pots and pans can be quite warm - so we wanted to ensure that your countertops are kept safe when using this at home.

To allow more of a stable center, the pot holder is knit using stranded colorwork. Having the additional colors “float” behind the project while working across allows for additional cushion and thickness. We also opted for the rectangular shape to pair well with the pots and pans in your kitchen, as it has a large surface area for use. This pot holder when finished measures 8.75” wide and 9” / 22.22 cm x 22.86 cm long from top to bottom.
