The Gwen Cowl
The Gwen cowl is a quick, fancy knit with a twist - pun definitely intended! A great gateway into using mosaic knitting techniques in the round. Mosaic knitting has become one of my all time favourite ways to play with colour and pattern and if you’ve not tried it yet, honestly… you should it’s so simple and SO rewarding.
This project uses aran weight yarn and this sample was knitted in Rosarios cappuccino aran (50g, 95 metres / 104 yards, 70% extra fine wool and 30% milk fibre).
You will need:
- 200g/380m Aran weight yarn in 2 contrasting colours (100g/190m of each).
- 2 x 4.5mm circular needles (60cm/24”) OR if you’re using interchangeable
knitting needles, an extra cable and
end caps. - Scrap yarn in a different colour for
provisional cast on. - Darning needle/blunt end needle.
- Stitch marker.
Things to peruse:
- The Kitchener stitch/ grafting.
- Mosaic knitting in the round -
stocking stitch version. - Provisional cast on methods.
