The Harvester
When the grapes are plump and ripe, the wheat is golden and crisp and the last of the Black boy peaches (with their dusky pink skin) are being gathered before the winter cold creeps in, it is a time of busy harvest. Those crisp mornings when we are reminded of why we prepare and harvest, as the cold starts to bite and takes longer to recede, needs a warm and practical jersey to perform the last of the wintery preparations. This is The Harvester!
The Harvester is a bottom-up drop shoulder jersey, with the hem and body being worked in the round. There is a simple lace section involving three colours, which is surrounded by the main colour, and then simple two-colour colour-work sections for three different motifs. A Latvian braid or Garter stitch Rounds then separate this section from the rest of the body, which is worked straight up in the main colour in the round. The front and back are then separated and worked flat with neck and shoulder shaping, before being joined together at the shoulders with a 3-needle bind-off. The sleeves are picked up and worked down with decreases to the cuff, and either a Latvian braid or the Garter Stich Rounds are repeated and are then completed with a simple 2x2 rib. The neckband is picked up and finished with a 2x2 rib. After-thought pockets are optional and can be made finally, just for those moments where a hand needs warming!
The colour work section has three colours but is worked in only two colours at a time making it an easy fun sweater! The body and arm lengths can be easily adjusted to make a perfect fit for you.
